A brief interview with a member
of your family and discuss one of the flows or scapes of globalization that has
changed or affected their lives in some way
Media includes many different elements and it affects the world in journalism,
pop culture and human social activities. Media makes the world connected intensively
and accelerates the development of mass media faster. In different countries,
media presents in various ways and the media flows the media and make it
globally. Globalization refers to a much wide and deeper human rendezvous,
particularly in culture, historical and geographical (Pieterse, 2004).
I had interviewed one of my friends, she is called Lucy and she comes
from China. She said 'no matter in China or Australia, media becomes the
important carrier that shapes in people's life'. She gave the point that people
knows about the news all over the world, and use the technology to deliver messages
and build up the interpersonal relationship. For example, when people surfing
on the Internet, they know the news from different countries rapidly, and they
also can make friends online through many kinds of social websites like
Facebook or Twitter. Media shapes the relationship more compact throughout the Internet
in a wide range in the modern society.
'There is practically no globalization without media and communication,
as many of the definitions of globalization at least indirectly acknowledge' (Rantanen,
2005, p4). Because media and communication spread the information by using
different devices like computers, mobile phones, televisions etc. All of these
carriers make the media diversified and functional and make people’s life more
interesting. The whole world actually likes a 'global village', even different
countries are far away in distance, but people feel closed because they can
know what happened right now even in other country. Media is shaping people’s behavior,
as my friend Lucy said ‘she always listen radios for daily news and watches
television programs at night’. Furthermore, mobile phones are the important tools
that we use every day, because it is the best convenient communication vehicle
to contact others despite the far distance. Media and globalization interact with each
other, while conducting the digital technologies progress grow at a rapid pace.

I liked how you incorporated media flows with globalisation and how this information can be spread quickly all over the world and create relationships with others. I also liked how you talked about the media world is changing from a one to one relationship to a many to many scope as we are constantly surrounded by information from many sources. On a critical note, another picture would be nice to break up the wording as well as another source to make it more 'scholarly'. But overall I liked how you incorporated your culture into this post and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post!
ReplyDeleteHi Blair,
ReplyDeleteGreat first piece. I liked how you embedded the quotes of your Chinese friend, and i found it interesting to here from the perspective of a different culture. I think i was a great idea to interview someone from China, because it gives a prime example of how globalisation has allowed us to connect with people overseas, thus making your argument very real. I would have also liked to have known how you communicated with your friend, as this would help put your argument into perspective.
Yue han Huang, an enjoyable first post. Your choice of a Chinese subject to interview for this topic is particularly interesting, given the Western media reports of China attempting to negate global informational influences - for instance, the censorship of Google.
ReplyDeleteSome of the references you make are relevant and insightful, though could be strengthened with scholarly examples. One such instance is where you mentioned the existence of a 'global village'. Here, a scholarly definition of globalisation referring to the connectivity of distant localities would be entirely appropriate.
I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future.
Good post, Yuehan. Your post was very insightful you focused on writing how the media could be tool to create the ‘globalisation’. I like how your chosen interviewee, who is Chinese, approach to the ‘globalisation’ such as she always gets news around the world. In addition, I totally agree with your argument, media shapes the relationship (maybe, socializing?) through the Internet all over the world. People can communicate with others, and also build the human relationship via a range of social media even if they are at long distance. You wrote it with some relevant references, however I was a big confused about the ‘global village’ which you mentioned so hopefully it would be explained with some scholarly examples next time.
